Where was God in COVID-19?

Where were You in COVID-19?

Where were You through lockdown and pain?

Where were You when we called on Your Name?

You were there with every smile shared,

Every Bible passed out, every prayer said.

You were there at every heartache, waiting with open arms

At every heart break, yearning to give comfort.

You were there when little tummies rumbled,

When old feet stumbled.

You were there in the abyss of jobs lost,

When food and medicine was too great a cost.

You were there, Your heart broken for our sorrow,

Your heart yearning for a better tomorrow.

Most of all for those broken hearts to fall to their knees

and surrender to You, crying out in earnest “please!

take my brokenness, take the nothing I have, take me”

Where were You in COVID-19?

Where were You through the abuse, the suicides, the silent screams?

You were right there.

Waiting, yearning, watching

For anyone to care.

Because You cared with all Your heart,

You broke Yourself for all of us.

But we’ve been too busy with ourselves to listen.

Now the busyness is stripped away, the tears glisten.

We are nothing on our own.

All to You we owe.

For You break Your heart over ours,

And ask our hearts to break over theirs,

To open our hands clutched tight.

To help them win their fight.

To bring Hope.

To bring relief.

To all who suffer with limited reprieve.

May we show the world what a joy it is to be Yours.

May we be willing to take a step back, to pause.

May we re-kindle the fire of true peace,

Oneness with You, found only on our knees.

It’s only that oneness that can heal the broken pieces:

Bridging chasms and smoothing the creases.

Like a glorious sunrise at the end of the deepest night,

Your Hope sneaks in and bursts into brilliant light.

Hope in Your glory, Your purpose, Your plan.

But most of all in who You are, the great I AM.

Hope because You are all that we need.

So if your heart is broken today

If your feeling abandoned, or lost your way

Stop for a bit

Take a minute and let down your guard

Cry out to the only One who can redeem the shattered shards

He takes all your broken and His perfectly whole He exchanges

But be prepared, you might not like the changes

It’s not always what we in our minds have rehearsed.

He doesn’t force, He won’t coerce.

He simply offers

To be there

Always
