Hope Alive Clinic began in 2011 when a team arrived to serve our community. Among them were two young ladies who were nurses. As these two nurses got to know the children in the community, they encountered many 13 and 14-year-old girls who were pregnant and lacked knowledge on self-care, baby care, and prenatal checkups.
Shocked by this situation, they approached the ministry to request the use of a room at the ministry center for prenatal checkups. They partnered with Rona, a nurse at the children's home, and on the first day, 20 women showed up, followed by another 20 on the second day. They conducted basic checkups, provided prenatal vitamins, 7 eggs for protein each day of the week, and held Bible study sessions. When those two nurses left a couple of weeks later, Rona continued to operate the clinic, and she continues to passionately serve as our Chief Midwife.
Over the next 14 years, the clinic grew both in the number of mothers served and the range of services provided. In addition to prenatal checkups, the clinic began offering delivery services, postnatal checkups for mother and baby, and family planning assistance.
We also believe in the importance of holistic care and invite volunteering Tagalog speaking Christian counselors and disciplers to minister to our mothers, many of whom have deep trauma and hurts. Each mother who visits the clinic is invited to become part of a Bible study or join a local Church, reflecting our belief that building relationships with these mothers is central to our mission of sharing Christ with them. We are continually developing support groups for new parents to journey the first year of parenthood together - if you speak Tagalog and would like to mentor a group, please get in touch!
While entire communities were shut down, and even physically locked in, and medical centers across the nation closed, Hope Alive remained open and continued to care for our vulnerable mothers. Many lost all income and had no way to even buy food for their families, and at this time Hope Alive was able to feed the hungry physically as well as spiritually.
For the communities locked in we started a mobile service, sometimes only able to pass vitamins, eggs and rice through the locked gate, and other times allowed to give each mother a brief check up inside a car. Hope Alive is firmly remembered as a place that continued to care, despite the risk to ourselves during the epidemic. Our reputation grew and our numbers increased, to the point where we had to add afternoon clinics, reduce the frequency of checkups, and hire additional staff to be able to manage the number of patients seeking our haven of hope.

As we hear of mothers and babies who have passed away at various healthcare institutions or at home during home births, our hearts are burdened. We are acutely aware of the public health system being overwhelmed, and that fear of death creates reluctance to enter the doors of a hospital. It's quite the challenge for us to get emergency cases accepted at public hospitals, even if they have a record there. The delay in treatment can truly be devastating.
As we have prayed over this challenge, God has placed in our hearts an unrelenting desire to expand Hope Alive Clinic into a small community hospital to help ease some of the pain and suffering around us and provide opportunity to further our Gospel outreach into all ages and stages of life!
